Nothing 'goodie' in these bags
Mother furious after daughter was given adult items at Summerbash

June 29, 2007

A Burbank mother has expressed her outrage after Toyota Park concert sponsors handed her disabled 12-year-old daughter a goodie bag including condoms and a sex-toy catalogue Sunday.

Pam Richard, 39, says she spent $167 to take her daughters Heather, 12, Crystal, 14, and Hala, 18, to the B96 Summerbash at the Bridgeview stadium.

The trip to see stars including Akon, Rihanna and Hilary Duff perform was intended to be a family celebration of Crystal's eighth-grade graduation.

But the outing was soured during a pre-show performance inside the stadium grounds, Richard said.

"The dancers were handing out CDs, so I went to the front to get one for Heather," she said.

"Heather has a disability similar to Tourette's syndrome, which makes her nervous in crowds and clench her fists when she's excited, so she couldn't ask herself.

"But when I told the dancer she was disabled, he wouldn't give me one.

"I asked again and he handed Heather a pink bag -- when I saw what was inside, I was shocked."

Inside the bag, which was put together by Lisle-based nightclub promotions company Mixmaster Throwdown, were two condoms, a catalogue for the adult store Lover's Lane, an explicit CD titled "Vigina," "Bearly Legal" sun-tan lotion sachets printed with marijuana leaves and a book of gag "sex coupons" entitling the bearer to direct sex videos and other sexual favors.

"I am disgusted they would promote sex and drugs to a 12-year-old," Richard said.

"About 90 percent of the people at the concert were teens and pre-teens -- this was completely inappropriate."

Eric Gorde, of the Lover's Lane marketing department admitted it had been "a mistake" to supply giveaways for the concert.

How could it possibly have taken 25 hours???? Why didn't anybody DRIVE them to JFK from Atlantic City? What does that take at 12:30 at night, 2 hours?

JetBlue passengers endure 25-hour trek from Fort Lauderdale to N.Y.

A 2 ½-hour JetBlue Airways flight bound from Fort Lauderdale to New York on Wednesday turned into a 25-hour odyssey that finally ended Thursday afternoon, as a chain of problems left 150 passengers staggered by the mind-boggling delay.

The cascade of problems occurred just four months after a disastrous five-day period in February when the airline canceled more than 1,000 flights in the New York area. And it again raises questions about how much of the blame should fall on airlines when flights encounter unexpected delays.

Flight 62's takeoff at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday was delayed for three hours. The jet departed, only to be diverted by bad weather to Atlantic City, N.J., where passengers stewed on the tarmac for four hours. At 12:30 a.m. Thursday, they were allowed off the plane. It would be another four hours until they finally were sent to a hotel for the night. The flight ultimately arrived at JFK International Airport at 3:21 p.m. Thursday.

Teens smoked cigarettes while jumping on oil tank
Investigators also look at campfire as cause of fatal blast

John F. Russell © Special To The Rocky
The charred site of a campfire marks the area near an oil well in Rio Blanco County where an oil storage tank exploded Saturday night, killing two teenagers.

Two teens were smoking as they jumped atop an oil tank in Routt National Forest just before it exploded, the Rio Blanco County undersheriff said Tuesday.

Investigators are looking at the possibility that cigarettes or ashes ignited vapors, Undersheriff Michael Joos said.

Other possibilities include sparks from a campfire 30 feet away or even static electricity.

"Some poor judgments were made," Joos said. "They (went) to an area they shouldn't have been at to jump up and down on an oil tank."

But assigning a cause to the freak accident is of little consolation to residents of the small south Routt County towns where residents are grieving the deaths of Samuel Hedemark, 17, and Christopher Fuller, 19.

Fuller, of Yampa, and Hedemark, of Phippsburg, had joined teens and young adults partying in National Forest Service land across a Forest Service road from Chapman Reservoir.

Many were current or past students at Soroco High School in Oak Creek. The district, with only 410 students, is a tightknit community, said Dina Murray, the district's business manager.

"The reports are that about 20 kids were in attendance at this party that witnessed these boys in an explosion," Murray said. "That's pretty traumatic."

Joos said authorities are learning that the site 20 miles southwest of Oak Creek was a popular party spot.

About 10:15 p.m. Saturday, authorities received reports of a blast. They found the bodies of Fuller and Hedemark, who were thrown more than 400 feet. A dog on the tank also was killed.

Both had elevated blood alcohol levels, Rio Blanco County Coroner Randall -Cochran reported.

Both victims spent a good deal of time outdoors, relatives and friends told the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

"That boy really went through fishing poles," Kathleen Foos, Hedemark's mother, told the paper.

Brandon Ager said his friend, Fuller, "was a real good guy that just liked to hunt, fish and hike with his dogs."

Between 32,000 and 40,000 oil and gas tanks are on public and private lands in Colorado, said Bureau of Land Management spokesman Jim Sample.

The tank that exploded was partially filled with 160 barrels of crude oil.

It was not fenced off but did have warning and no-trespassing signs on it, Joos said.

A release valve on the top of the tank prevents vapors from building up. Investigators believe that the motion of the young men jumping caused vapors to escape.

Joos said a third young man was on the tank and got off just before the blast, which blew the top portion of the tank 100 yards and knocked partygoers to the ground.

Investigators have not yet interviewed all the witnesses. Charges could be filed against those in attendance as well as against the person who provided alcohol.

Prosecutors visited the site Sunday, Joos said.

Tricia Beaver, spokeswoman for the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, said in her 23 years with the agency she's never heard of such an accident.

Beaver said environmental tests are being conducted but noted that most of the oil either burned off or collected in an area designed for that purpose.

"It's just a really unfortunate situation that occurred," she said.

A joint memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Yampa cemetery, along Colorado 131 between Yampa and Phippsburg.

Rosie O'Donnell is defending the banner photograph at the top of her blog today featuring her 4-year-old daughter wearing a toy ammunition belt and military fatigues.

Rosie O'Donnell is defending her online posting of this photo of her 4-year-old daughter Vivienne dressed up in military fatigues with toy ammunition (photo: Rosie.com)

Titled "a picture says a thousand posts," the item was posted by the entertainer and outspoken anti-war activist at midday.

The photo is one of several now featured in a home video on Breitbart.tv showing Vivienne make the transition from princess last year to armed militant this year.

O'Donnell explains the photo was the result of a game of make-believe.

In an e-mail to The ShowBuzz, she said:

"They don't watch TV – this is how they play/the boys had fatigues and were playing war/the girls wanted some/they run around the house with water guns/shooting each other."

"It's fascinating to me/that an image of a child dressed up as a soldier/evokes so much attention/yet the real soldiers – their deaths – their wounded bodies/doesn't seem to faze most/or make news," she added.

The weapons-filled imagery has prompted messages of shock, horror and support on Rosie's blog, including:

  • Help me out here. ... Why is that child in the header pic (your child I believe) wearing a bullet belt around her? Is there a political statement ur trying to make? (Eula Hollon)
  • That photo of Vivi with the bullets made me cry – it's scary to think that there are precious little ones really walking around like that in our world "for real." Come on people! Help our babies (Jennifer Clark)
  • That picture is gross! I am disturbed…leaving your site for a clearing of my mind as to what you are up to! (David)
  • Oh, WOW Vivi looks beautiful.! the fact that U (sic) let her explore her imagination like that shows what a good mom U R (sic). In some countries though, they are training terrorists that young, how sad is that? (Jessika)
  • My god ... that picture. I can't stop crying. This war is such bull----. (Jessi)
  • WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT PICTURE OF VIVI WEARING BULLETS, I LOVE YOU AND IT REALLY OFFENEDED ME!!!! (Kathleen)
  • The latest photo of Vivi is brilliant and disturbing. Sickening to know that this is reality for thousands of children around the world. Sometimes sister-friend, you break my heart. Thank you xox (Sandy)
  • Powerful picture on your header. What we need to be focusing on, instead of you know who. Love it. I can see the negative comments flowing in. (Steven)
  • Not sure of the "message" you are trying to send with that pic of Viv, but I guarantee many are not going to get it. ... Children with bullets, even fake ... ?? what are u (sic) thinking? (Jon E.)

O'Donnell has been a proponent of gun-control measures over the years, but was accused of hypocrisy in 2000 when it was revealed her bodyguard had applied for a concealed weapons permit at the Greenwich, Conn., police department so he could better protect Rosie's children.

An angry O'Donnell at the time blamed the media and gun-industry supporters for releasing the information.

She blamed the Greenwich police for covertly releasing the information to the press in order to paint her as a charlatan. She also said she was upset that reporters "informed the world" that her security personnel were unarmed, suggesting the revelation raised the risks to her family.

"[My bodyguard] has the right as a person who's residing in Connecticut a lot of the time due to his work with me to request to carry a gun. ... He's an individual and he works for a security firm," O'Donnell told Katie Couric, who was still hosting NBC's "Today" show.

O'Donnell also suggested gun-rights organizations like the National Rifle Association were partly responsible for spreading the word about the gun permit application, suggesting it was a politically motivated action and, in part, an attempt to find out whether or not her bodyguard was carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Booty calls in the bunkers

Again people outside of South Carolina appear to be able to get their freak on without killing anyone in the process. However, that is one scary looking lap dance!

Lap dancing on golf course angers neighbors

HOWARD FRANK
Pocono Record Writer

Stroudsburg Area Regional Police are investigating complaints of a private golf outing featuring lap dance stations, threesomes and naked women at the Cherry Valley Golf Course on Monday.

Neighbors called police after Dave Gold, 20, and a 17-year-old female were denied access to the road shared by the golf course and the home of Gold's friend, Will Croasdale, 19.

Gold said an employee of the course told him a private golf tournament was taking place, and the road was closed.

When Gold argued, he said he was first told by the employee "I'll kick your ass," followed by "I'll break your neck."

Gold and Croasdale shot videotape and still photos of the activities on the course from Cherry Valley Road, which showed partially clothed females performing lap dances for golfers and sex acts on each other.

Golfers were seen taking photos of the performances.

"They had stations around the course, with lawn chairs and blankets laid out," Croasdale said.

Both Croasdale and Gold saw several golfers give money to the women.

At one station, the two men overheard the women say "this is a pay to play station."

Four SARP officers were met in the golf course parking lot by course owner Gene Percudani, who said the course was closed for a private party.

He added that if the men saw anything it was because they were on the course without permission.

The men said they were on the public road when they took the video and pictures.

The police asked to speak with the women who were allegedly having sex. A tense exchange between the police and Percudani followed, with Percudani saying he wanted to call his attorney.

About 30 minutes later, Marshall Anders, a local attorney who represents Percudani, arrived at the course and disappeared into the clubhouse.

Two officers were also taken inside the clubhouse.

Several moments later, a woman who identified herself as being in charge of the women on the course was summoned into the clubhouse to meet with police.

The group consisted of dancers and customers of CR Fannys Gentlemen's Club in Wilson, according to one of the women present.

The Web site stripclubcentral.com lists CR Fanny's as featuring female dancers in pasties and a minimum guest age of 21 and over.

One guest of the party said he was a friend of one of the club's clients.

Some guests left in an oversized black stretch limo.

Others boarded a charter bus waiting in the parking lot.

"It's not clear whether any laws were broken," according to SARP officer Paul Gasper.

Officer Ruben Torres, another one of the responding officers wouldn't comment further, saying "this is an ongoing investigation."

Neighbors said this wasn't the first time the course closed for one of these private parties.

Red Featherman, whose property borders Cherry Valley Golf Course, said he isn't very happy about the day's activities.

"My granddaughter rides her bike in the woods on our property and I don't want here to be exposed to that kind of thing."

Attempts to speak to Percudani at the scene and to contact him afterward were unsuccessful.

Friends remember

Couple who fell off building remembered

(Columbia) - Friends of the two people who died Wednesday when they fell off a downtown Columbia rooftop are speaking out about the kind of people they were.

The victims, 21-year-old Brent Tyler of Hilton Head and 21-year-old Chelsea Tumbleston of the Isle of Palms, died when they fell off the Palmetto Armory building on Laurel Street around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

An autopsy Thursday confirmed that the two died from the fall, and not from any injuries prior to the incident.

Tyler and Tumbleston both worked at the Wild Wings location in the Vista. Tumbleston also worked at the location in Harbison.

Brian Corey says he was a friend of Tyler for three years, and worked at the restaurant with him.

"I'm still in shock," says Corey. "It's kinda one of those things you just really don't know how to answer ever, no matter if it's a friend or family. It's never really easy."

Corey says the two had met in Hilton Head, and would hang out together. "He was a great kid. Very fun to work with him. He always turned every situation around, and was able to make everyone laugh. A really good kid."

Deanne Morris had known Tumbleston for four years, and had been her roommate for the last year.

"She was my tv buddy, she was my cooking buddy, she was my heart and soul," says Morris. "She was my everything."

"She was a good daugther, sister, friend, that would just brighten anyone's heart," says Morris. "Whatever room she was in, everywhere she went, she made friends. Good friends. She was always there for anybody and everybody."

Columbia Police Chief Dean Crisp says Tyler and Tumbleston were found by a taxi driver in one of the lanes of the 900 block of Laurel Street around 5:30 a.m.

Sergeant Florence McCants says the victims fell 50 to 60 feet from the sloping metal roof of the Palmetto Armory Building. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and died a short time later. Crisp says the victims were found nude.

Police say there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs at the scene.

At this point, it appears the two got onto the roof by an adjacent parking garage. That's where officers say they found what they believe are the victim's clothes.

Naomi Mosley and her husband occasionally sleep at the parking garage where the couple gained access to the roof. She says she saw at least some of what led up to the deaths.

"I was getting up, packing up my stuff to get it out of the place," she says, when she noticed a young, nude couple arrive in a car, and climb onto the roof.

"When they came in, they was laughling, laughing and happy," says Mosley. "Her arm was up in the air, and he was pulling her up. He said 'baby I got you.'"

"If I could have gave them a warning, and tell them that's dangerous, go some other place," she says in retrospect.

Instead, Naomi says she and her husband decided to just mind their own business. They packed up their belongings and exited the parking garage around 5:30 a.m.

She then saw the taxi cab driver who found the bodies. Police were arriving to block off the streets.

"I said Lord God, I hope they gave their soul to you."

Naomi says it's a sight she wishes she'd never seen.

"Right now, I feel heartache that it happened. Because I don't want my worst enemy to fall off no roof like that."

He sold seal WHAT? to Koreans????!!

From the Anchorage Daily news (I don't know how Ice missed this), how do you think they harvest these?

St. Paul man faces prison, fine for selling seal oosiks

GUILTY PLEA: He had been a signer of an agreement to manage depleted species.

A former president of the St. Paul Island Tribal Government who co-signed an agreement to protect northern fur seals pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally selling seal oosiks to a Korean health store in Anchorage.

Michael Richard Zacharof, 49, was a signer on a National Marine Fisheries Service agreement in 2000 to help manage the depleted species.

"He was one of the folks who negotiated to help Alaskan Natives take advantage of an opportunity, but he turned around and did something illegal," said Andrea Steward, assistant U.S. Attorney. "It makes it especially offensive for those involved with the program."

Zacharof faces up to one year in prison and a $20,000 fine for violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

Oosiks are the penis bones of seals and walrus. Under the marine mammal act, Alaska Natives are allowed to harvest seals for subsistence and to create artworks and handicrafts for sale from other parts of the animals, including oosiks. But it is illegal for Natives to sell raw, unworked oosiks to non-Natives.

Prosecutors say Zacharof sold 100 raw oosiks to Lotte Health International, owned by Yong Taik Chung, in 2005.

Zacharof is expected to be sentenced this fall.

Chung was also charged with illegally buying, then reselling the oosiks for about $100 each. In May, he pleaded guilty to two felony charges. He also agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify against those who sold him the illegal wildlife products, said his lawyer Brent Cole on Tuesday.

Chung's store on Fourth Avenue, now called Lotte Market, was selling legal wildlife parts, such as reindeer antlers. But it was also selling illegal wildlife parts, like the seal parts and black bear gall bladders, prosecutors said.

Investigators first uncovered the illegal trade in 2004 and 2005, when they intercepted two packages of gall bladders and oosiks in Massachusetts and traced them back to Chung's business. From there, the seal parts were traced back to Zacharof.

The seal penis bones, also known as seal sticks, are considered aphrodisiacs, Steward said: "In this instance, I believe it was for Korean medicinal purposes. My understanding was that it's similar to a Viagra product."

The bear gall bladders are also used for medicinal purposes, she said.

Zacharof headed the seal hunt from which the parts were taken. And, as is traditional in his Native community of 500 in the Pribilof Islands, the meat was divided among community members, said his lawyer, assistant federal defender M.J. Haden.

She said the seals were taken for their meat and the oosiks would just have been thrown away if Zacharof hadn't sold them.

Chung is scheduled for sentencing in July.

"He's never had any problems in his life, hardly even a speeding ticket," said his attorney, Cole. "This has been a very difficult time for him."

Chung also agreed to a $15,000 fine and to take out a full-page ad in the local Korean newspaper to apologize to the community, Cole said.

The northern fur seal population has continued a marked decline this decade, federal biologists said earlier this year. Remote points of land in the Bering Sea are the breeding grounds for more than half the world's population.

No Vick event at Kingsmill

The Atlanta quarterback will not hold his charity golf tournament.

Michael Vick's charity golf tournament, set for today at Kingsmill, has been canceled.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback has been under scrutiny since April, when local and state police raided a home in Surry County that belonged to him, taking away dozens of dogs. The animals and equipment removed from the house are now part of a dogfighting investigation, and the house has been sold.

The golf tournament was to benefit several foundations, including scholarships in the memory of the Virginia Tech shooting victims. Kings-mill officials did not say why the event was canceled when they contacted WAVY-TV 10.

Gloucester football coach Tommy Reamon, Vick's coach at Warwick High, said the event was canceled weeks ago.

Appearances by Vick in football camps at William and Mary and Christopher Newport also recently were canceled. No one has been charged in connection with the dogfighting investigation.

Anguished Parents Sign Consent Forms, Saying They Had No Choice

Coach
Track coach Brenton Wuchae and 16-year-old Windy Hagar wed Monday. (ABC News)

From GMA

They envisioned that life for the good student and promising athlete would be filled with dreams of the prom and college, but that all changed this week when Windy, 16, married her high school track coach.

"She was a dream kid," said her mother, Betty Hager. "We'd never have to worry about Windy trying to get by with something."

At South Brunswick High School in North Carolina, Windy's greatest passion was track and field.

"She just always was outside, always running, and her name's Windy — I guess she was predestined to do love to do that," Betty said.

But that passion led her down a troubling path.

Special Attention From Coach

During Windy's freshman year, her 38-year-old track coach, Brenton Wuchae, began taking a more active interest in her, offering to give the 14-year-old rides home from practice.

"He just seemed like a genuine guy, like he was there for the kids," said Windy's father, Dennis Hager.

But the Hagers eventually grew uneasy. Their phone bills showed text messages between Wuchae and Windy as late as 2 a.m.

They also discovered worrying e-mails. In one, Windy wrote to a friend, "I don't care to look at anyone other than him. He is the apple of my eye, I've never felt this way for someone, but I just don't want to lose him because of my parents' power trips."

The Hagers confronted Wuchae.

"He assured me there was nothing like that going on, [and that] they were just friends. His intentions were purely appropriate," Dennis said.

Not satisfied with that answer, the Hagers turned to the school district, which spoke to the coach.

The principal of the high school wrote to the Hagers, "I have seen nothing but a cooperative attitude from the teacher, and to the best of my knowledge, he has not had any contact with Windy since then."

"School officials can't be responsible for what happens the other hours of the day, and I would think the relationship developed much more outside of school," said Brian Shaw, an attorney for the school district.

The Hagers contacted police; they even tried to get a restraining order.

"We've tried everybody. We've been to the law. We've been to the school board," Betty said. "Our family has come and tried to talk to her. We've had people on the phone with her for hours — family, friends. We've been to our pastor asking for guidance. We've been to his pastor."

Meanwhile, the Hagers say Windy withdrew, refusing to speak to them until she asked them to sign a consent form so that she and her coach — a man more than twice her age — could get married.

Although anguished, her weary parents gave in.

"Signing those consent forms was the hardest thing I did in my whole life, but we had to move on, it was going to kill us all," Dennis said.

Monday, Windy and Wuchae married, and he resigned from the school.

But was Windy really old enough to understand her decision? Experts say it's a difficult situation.

"With most teenagers, they're not sure yet who's who and what's what and what should be done," said Henry Paul, author of the book "Is My Teenager OK?" "It's obviously up to the adult figure to set the boundaries."

Windy and her new husband would not comment for this story, but the Hagers realize what they've lost.

"She could have done anything," Betty said. "She could have set the world on fire. She threw it all away."

MIT's inconvenient scientist

Here's the kind of information the ``scientific consensus" types don't want you to read. MIT's Alfred P. Sloan professor of meteorology Richard Lindzen recently complained about the ``shrill alarmism" of Gore's movie ``An Inconvenient Truth." Lindzen acknowledges that global warming is real, and he acknowledges that increased carbon emissions might be causing the warming -- but they also might not.
``We do not understand the natural internal variability of climate change" is one of Lindzen's many heresies, along with such zingers as ``the Arctic was as warm or warmer in 1940," ``the evidence so far suggests that the Greenland ice sheet is actually growing on average," and ``Alpine glaciers have been retreating since the early 19th century, and were advancing for several centuries before that. Since about 1970, many of the glaciers have stopped retreating and some are now advancing again. And, frankly, we don't know why."

'Mile-wide UFO' spotted by British airline pilot

22.06.07

One of the largest UFOs ever seen has been observed by the crew and passengers of an airliner over the Channel Islands.

An official air-miss report on the incident several weeks ago appears in Pilot magazine.

Aurigny Airlines captain Ray Bowyer, 50, flying close to Alderney first spotted the object, described as "a cigar-shaped brilliant white light".

Aurigny Airlines captain Ray Bowyer, 50, described what he thought to be a UFO as 'a cigar-shaped brilliant white light', similar to the image supplied by Dennis Plunket of the British Flying Saucer bureau

As the plane got closer the captain viewed it through binoculars and said:

"It was a very sharp, thin yellow object with a green area. It was 2,000ft up and stationary. I thought it was about 10 miles away, although I later realised it was approximately 40 miles from us. At first, I thought it was the size of a [Boeing] 737.

"But it must have been much bigger because of how far away it was. It could have been as much as a mile wide."

Continuing his approach to Guernsey, Bowyer then spied a "second identical object further to the west".

He said: "It was exactly the same but looked smaller because it was further away. It was closer to Guernsey. I can't explain it. This was clearly visual for about nine minutes.

"I'm certainly not saying that it was something of another world. All I'm saying is that I have never seen anything like it before in all my years of flying."

The sightings were confirmed by passengers Kate and John Russell. John, 74, said "I saw an orange light. It was like an elongated oval".

The sightings were also confirmed by an unnamed pilot with the Blue Islands airline.

The Civil Aviation Authority safety notice states that a Tri-Lander aircraft flying close to Alderney spotted the object.

"Certain parts of the report have not been published. I cannot say why," said a senior CAA source.

Earlier this year however, the MOD declared its intentions to open its UFO files to the public.

Mom doesn't want manner of death to be daughter's legacy

Chelsea A. Tumbleston (left), who died in a fall from a roof in Columbia, and her mother, Kelley Hartsell, at Chelsea's 21st birthday in January.

Kelley Hartsell wants her eldest daughter to be remembered as a caring young woman whose personality could light up a room, rather than being remembered for the unusual manner of her death.

Chelsea Tumbleston, a 21- year-old graduate of Stratford High School who attended University of South Carolina, died Wednesday in Columbia after she and 21-year-old Brent W. Tyler of Hilton Head fell about 50 feet from a building during the early morning hours.

"Unfortunately, those two children fell to the ground and died, and were found by a cab driver, naked," Hartsell said.

"No one wants that to be their legacy," she said. "That is a child who was working her way through college with her own money to become a nurse."

Police haven't reached a conclusion on what caused the couple to fall to their deaths. Their clothing was found on the roof of the building, and they were found in the street at 5 a.m. by the cab driver.

Because of the unusual nature of the deaths, the story was picked up by media outlets across country.

"I think it's just terrible to be known as the naked person off of a building, when she was one of the sweetest people I've known in my life," said family friend Rhonda Reeves. "It's a tragedy, without a doubt.

"She's my best friend's daughter, who was one of the most beauti- ful little girls, inside and out," Reeves said.

Tumbleston and Tyler were co-workers at a Wild Wing Cafe near Columbia, and Tumbleston worked at Wild Wing in Mount Pleasant before going to USC and during summer breaks, according to her mother.

Hartsell said her daughter grew up in Mount Pleasant and Goose Creek, and she was a cheerleader and prom queen at Stratford High School who enjoyed sports.

"She was loving and caring," Hartsell said. "I had some financial problems and she was helping me."

She said her daughter typically put in long hours at work, and that Tumbleston and Tyler had been seeing each other for a couple of weeks.

Hartsell said her daughter had just taken exams in May and recently asked her for help with financial aid forms, but USC spokesman Russ McKinney said Tumbleston withdrew from school last August and was not enrolled this year.

"The police are still trying to figure out what happened," Hartsell said. "It's not how she died, it's how she lived."

Friends of Chelsea Tumbleston, 21, and Brent Tyler, 21, found dead on a Columbia street early Wednesday morning after an apparent four-story fall, have found a place to grieve: On the two's Facebook Web pages.

Facebook and other social networking sites such as MySpace serve as an immediate way to connect with friends and share sadness. Groups were set up just after the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech; Facebook also has a group set up to mourn the deaths of nine firefighters in Charleston on Monday.

Tumbleston's Facebook profile is filled with heartfelt condolences and dedications. One feature of the site is that virtual friends can post comments to a friend's "wall." One message from Krystal Shrider reads: "I love you Chelsea. You'll forever be in our hearts, we all miss you SOOO much! It's not gonne be the same, but you're legacy will live on!!!!! You now have wings, and will be watching over us all!"

Tumbleston's profile gives insight into the life of the young woman. A fan of all types of music, she also enjoyed cooking out with her roommates, sunbathing and meeting cute boys.

Tyler, who worked with Tumbleston at Wild Wing Cafe in the Vista, became virtual friends with her on June 5. Laurie McGranahan posted to his wall a little after midnight Thursday "Everyone misses you. you have been thought about every second of today...you will always be missed and thought about."

A former USC Beaufort student, Tyler was interested in working out and surfing, no surprise since he listed his hometown as Hilton Head.

Autopsies were scheduled Thursday for the two, who died after falling about 50 feet from the roof of a downtown office building. Police on Wednesday said their deaths were an apparent accident. Clothing was found on the roof. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said the couple were students at the University of South Carolina, but on Thursday a school spokesman said they were not currently enrolled.

Tumbleston attended the Columbia campus in 2005-06 and Tyler attended the Beaufort campus during the same period, university spokesman Russ McKinney said.

The couple were found in the road by a cabdriver about 5 a.m. Wednesday. They were pronounced dead at Palmetto Richland Hospital, police said.

Sky Team, Yay!

DALLAS (AP) - Continental Airlines Inc. is apologizing to its customers for "poor conditions" aboard a transatlantic flight where one passenger described sewage spilling down the aisle from a lavatory.

"I've never felt so offended in all my life," passenger Collin Brock of Washington state told Seattle's KING-TV. "I felt like I had been physically abused and neglected. I was forced to sit next to human excrement for seven hours."

Continental spokesman Dave Messing on Thursday confirmed that there had been a problem with the plane's lavatory during the flight.

Flight 71, with 168 passengers on board, had taken off June 13 from Amsterdam bound for Newark, N.J., but made an overnight stop in Shannon, Ireland, to fix the lavatory problem, Messing said.

He said everything appeared to have been fixed before the plane took off again for Newark the next day, renamed Flight 1970, but then "the problem developed again."

After the plane landed in Newark, airline employees determined the problem was caused by someone flushing latex gloves down the toilet—despite signs that warn not to discard foreign objects into the system, Messing said.

"We deeply regret the serious inconvenience to our customers and are apologizing to them and compensating them for the poor conditions on the flight as well as the diversion and delay," he wrote in a statement from the Houston-based carrier.

Continental is compensating passengers with travel vouchers, Messing said. He declined to say how much the vouchers were worth.

Brock told KING-TV he was offered a $500 voucher. He said he wasn't sure he would ever use it.

Update: Did you feel that?

Did the earth move for you was that just AAAAAHHHHHHHH.....!!

Here's the roof they fell from

and here's the happy couple

(Columbia) - The Richland County Coroner has identified a man and woman who fell to their deaths from a building on Laurel Street in downtown Columbia.

Late Wednesday night, Coroner Gary Watts identified the victims as 21-year-old Brent Tyler of Hilton Head and 21-year-old Chelsea Tumbleston of the Isle of Palms. Watts says he believes the two are students.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday.

An employee of Wild Wings confirmed to News19 that Tyler and Tumbleston both worked at the Wild Wings location in the Vista. Tumbleston also worked at the location in Harbison.

Columbia Police Chief Dean Crisp says Tyler and Tubleston were found by a taxi driver in one of the lanes of the 900 block of Laurel Street around 5:30 a.m.

Police: Naked Couple May Have Died From Sex

POSTED: 2:27 pm MDT June 20, 2007
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Police on Wednesday were investigating how a naked couple fell four stories from the roof of a downtown office building to their deaths.

The man and woman were found near the sidewalk by a passing cab driver around 5 a.m. Wednesday. One person was pronounced dead at scene and the other died a short time later at a local hospital.

Clothing was discovered on the roof, leading authorities to suspect the couple, in their early 20s, may have been having sex. Their identities were not released.

"It's too early to rule out anything," Columbia police Sgt. Florence McCants said, but McCants said a preliminary investigation didn't show any sign of foul play.

The roof of the building is pyramid-shaped.

Bare Breasts and topless Phoenix Feely awarded 29k

June 18, 2007

NEW YORK --A woman arrested for exposing her breasts has accepted a $29,000 settlement from the city, her lawyer said.

Jill Coccaro, 27, was arrested on a topless stroll two years ago, despite a 1992 state appeals court ruling that concluded women should have the same right as men to take off their shirts.

Coccaro, who now goes by the name Phoenix Feeley, remained in custody for 12 hours before she was told prosecutors were not going to pursue charges.

Her attorney, Jeffrey Rothman, told the Daily News that his client won the civil rights settlement from the city, which did not admit or deny wrongdoing.

"We hope the police learn a lesson and respect the rights of women to go topless," Rothman said.

Feeley told the New York Post that she was not treated well after her Aug. 4, 2005, arrest in Manhattan's Lower East Side section. She claimed in an October lawsuit that a police officer yanked her out of a patrol car by her hair and police took her to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

She told the newspaper she had gone bare-breasted after running the 2004 city marathon without police bothering her.

Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student, 13

(WCCO) A middle school teacher in Prescott, Wis. has been fired and the Pierce County Sheriff is investigating claims she had sex with a 13-year-old student.

"It's just shocking to hit Prescott like this," said Tom Riley a Prescott resident.

The 38-year-old woman was a substitute at Prescott Middle School.

The student's father said he found the two having a middle of the night rendezvous together at the teacher's home after the boy stole his mother's car.

Sources said the woman's husband and 13-year-old daughter were home at the time.

The father filed a restraining order which claims the two had sexual intercourse. He said he has copies of e-mails between the two.

Zach Simones, who coached the 13-year-old boy on the seventh grade football team, said he is sickened by the incident.

"He was dating the lady's 13-year-old daughter before this happened," said Simones.

The woman taught at both the middle and high schools, but the superintendent said his investigation has turned up no other students who were involved with this woman.

The school superintendent also said the teacher and student did not meet in the classroom.

The Pierce County Sheriff confirms that they are investigating.

Security setup records teen sexually abusing barn horse

Suspect arrested on charges of burglary, sex abuse of animal

A Corvallis teenager is facing charges of burglary and sexual abuse of an animal after being arrested last week at a barn in northeast Corvallis.

The teenager, 17 at the time of his arrest, was arrested by Deputy Randy Hiner and Corvallis Police Officer Jason Harvey at the barn in the 4000 block of Northeast Minnesota Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. on June 7.

The owners of the property had reported assaults on the horse before, once on July 30, 2006, and again on Feb. 9 of this year. After the July incident, the owners noticed the halter of their mare had been moved. So the owners installed a video surveillance camera inside the barn.

In February 2007, the owners again noticed a halter and some food dishes had been moved in the barn. When they checked the video from the surveillance camera, they saw a male who they estimated being between 16 and 18 years old, sexually assaulting the horse. He wore a jacket and long pants and a baseball cap. They were not able to identify the suspect from the video.

Deputy Clay Stephens, who viewed the video, said the youth seemed very practiced, not hurried but not wasting any time. Stephens said he seemed to be following a “very concise, deliberate, well-thought-out plan.”

After the February incident, the owners installed a silent alarm on the barn. On June 7, at around 2:30 a.m., the alarm sounded in the house. The owners looked at the video monitor and saw the suspect preparing to assault the horse. They called the sheriff’s office. The suspect had gotten into the locked barn by squeezing behind one panel of a sliding door.

The suspect was charged with second degree burglary, a Class C felony, and sexual abuse of an animal, a Class A misdemeanor. He was taken to the Linn-Benton Detention Center where he was arraigned and released later the same day. His next court appearance is a hearing June 20.

COW Manure FRIEND or FOE ????

Or is it the front end of the cow that is killing us ......

While manure-derived methane is proving very useful, the methane cows burp is causing problems. Methane is a greenhouse gas and, in the atmosphere, contributes to global warming. Cows burp an abundant supply of it every day — about 280 liters per animal (in other words, the average cow could fill 140 two-liter soda bottles with gas daily). Unfortunately, burped methane is more difficult to collect, with the result that about six million metric tons of it float blissfully up into the atmosphere every year. And that's just from herds in the United States. (Worldwide, ruminant livestock — including cattle, sheep, goats, and buffalo — produces about 80 million metric tons of methane per year, accounting for 22% of anthropogenic methane emissions.) Study: Kilimanjaro's shrinking snow not sign of warming

Photo-1912 Photo - 2006

Study: Kilimanjaro's shrinking snow not sign of warming - CNN.com

It is certainly possible that the icecap has come and gone many times over hundreds of thousands of years," Mote, a climatologist, said in a statement.
"But for temperate glaciers, there is ample evidence that they are shrinking, in part because of warming from greenhouse gases."
Unlike mid-latitude glaciers, which are warmed and melted by surrounding air in the summer, the disappearance of Kilimanjaro's ice is driven by solar radiation, since the air around it is rarely above freezing, they wrote.
SO these geniuses admit that this is happening, but that it is an anomoly amongst all the other glaciers in the world. What ever happened to the scientific approach ?? This is the scientific world's equivalence to "Revisionist History" !!

Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:38AM EDT

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Two Thai street mutts who became ace sniffer dogs at an airport near the notorious "Golden Triangle" opium-producing region have been fired for urinating on luggage and sexually harassing female passengers.

The pair, Mok and Lai, had been plucked from obscurity under a program initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej to turn strays into police dogs, the Bangkok Post said on Sunday.

Although they won plaudits from police for their work in sniffing out drugs at northern Thailand's Chiang Rai airport, near the border with Laos and Myanmar, so many passengers complained about their behavior they had to be fired.

"He liked to pee on luggage while searching for drugs inside," Mok's former handler, Police Lieutenant Colonel Jakapop Kamhon, said. "He also liked to hold on to women's legs."

Embedded Blogger returns to Alaska !!!

Did Global Warming help destroy homes back in '69 ??
Yes, the Grand master Blogger (G #2) has requested more info on the "Carbon Neutral" State known as ALASKA.
Once again I travel along the Coastal bike trail along Anchorage and stopped by "Earthquake Park"
Just outside of downtown, Earthquake Park commemorates the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake - the most powerful tremor ever recorded in North America. See where huge tracts of land slid into the inlet, destroying 75 homes. Downtown at The Alaska Experience Center a movie presentation of the 1964 earthquake is shown year-round, (ref http://www.anchorage.net/492.cfm
Now this park has of info on a bunch of monuments and pertaining to the 75 homes destroyed. They say that the homes where built on a bluff which was supported by a large clay sediment layer that was deposited by glaciers 15-30 thousand years ago!!!
Now wait a minute, I thought that "Global Warming" was a new thing?!?!?!
