Delta Asks Union to Drop Part Of Contract to Boost Deal Prospects

Delta Air Lines Inc. is asking its union leaders to abandon parts of the Delta pilot labor contract in hopes of pushing forward a merger deal with Northwest Airlines Corp. as early as next week, according to people familiar with the situation.
In return, Delta is promising its 6,000 aviators pay raises, equity and a board seat in the combined carrier, those people say.
Delta executives hope the behind-the-scenes talks could finally break the logjam of pilot resistance from both Delta and Northwest pilots that for months has kept the Atlanta carrier from proceeding with the deal, which would make Delta ...

It is all about squeezing as much money out of the corporation as possible before it all goes down the tubes or the Gov't enforces airline regulation.
Remember..it ain't about the employees or the customers, it's about how much the top managers can make in 2-3 years before they leave......
