No Vick event at Kingsmill
The Atlanta quarterback will not hold his charity golf tournament.
Michael Vick's charity golf tournament, set for today at Kingsmill, has been canceled. The Atlanta Falcons quarterback has been under scrutiny since April, when local and state police raided a home in Surry County that belonged to him, taking away dozens of dogs. The animals and equipment removed from the house are now part of a dogfighting investigation, and the house has been sold.
The golf tournament was to benefit several foundations, including scholarships in the memory of the Virginia Tech shooting victims. Kings-mill officials did not say why the event was canceled when they contacted WAVY-TV 10.
Gloucester football coach Tommy Reamon, Vick's coach at Warwick High, said the event was canceled weeks ago.
Appearances by Vick in football camps at William and Mary and Christopher Newport also recently were canceled. No one has been charged in connection with the dogfighting investigation.
